5 Top Reason to Live in Lisle

Here at Avant at the Arboretum, we love our little city of Lisle. With a population of just a little over 20,000, it’s the perfect blend of small town and big city and is a stark contrast to our neighbor Chicago for those of us who prefer a more rural living environment. Read on for some more of our favorite parts about living here in Lisle, Illinois.

1.       The Accolades

We could go on and on about how much we love Lisle, but don’t just take our word for it! Lisle has been named within the Top 20 Best Places to Live in both Money Magazine and Western Suburban Living Magazine. We’ve also received recognition as one of the 15 best downtowns in the latter publication, and the most parks per resident, and Niche.com considers us third in their Best Places to Live in DuPage County (behind Naperville and Clarendon Hills). According to both magazines, they factored in “population, home values, education, public safety, and several other criteria [for] the overall rankings.”

2.       The Outdoors

As we mentioned in our first point, Lisle’s ratio of parks per resident is high (which we love). At Avant, we’re particularly partial to the Morton Arboretum just across the road, but Lisle is also home to 42 sites in its Park District, totaling 447 acres. If you enjoy nature, you’ll love Lisle. The Arboretum boasts an impressive 1,700 acres of woodlands, wetlands, gardens, and exhibits that offer year-round activities for the entire family. No matter what time of year you’ll find plenty of outdoor activities available in Lisle.

3.       Downtown Lisle

Lisle has a walk score of 38 and a bike score of 42, which isn’t bad for a suburb. That walk score is at least in part due to the pedestrian-friendly retail and restaurant district in the downtown area. Stroll past a variety of quaint shops and restaurants or relax in front of a fountain at the Garden Walk or among nature at PrairieWalk Pond. Head downtown Saturday mornings from May through September for the French Market, an open-air market full of fun and treasures.

4.       Employment Opportunities

The average commute in Lisle is 29 minutes, which you can brag about to your friends who live in the city. With more than 1,000 businesses in Lisle, including several corporations and world headquarters such as Unilever, IKON, Navistar and SunCoke Energy. While Chicago is also a reasonable commute (especially via the Metra line), you can easily find employment closer to home instead of spending so much of your day in a car or on a Metra if you choose.

5.       Education

If you’re familiar with the Chicago burbs it should be no surprise that in and around Lisle offer some of the best school systems in the country. More than 74% of the population is college educated, and Lisle itself is home to numerous nationally recognized educational institutions. No matter what your age you’ll be able to better yourself regardless of your path in life. Lisle residents also prove to be well-read, averaging 38 items checked out per residents in a local library per year.
